About Public Holidays in South Sudan
South Sudan, the world's newest country, celebrates a holiday calendar built around its hard-won independence. Independence Day on July 9 marks the 2011 secession from Sudan, the country's greatest national celebration, and the Peace Agreement Day in October commemorates the 2018 settlement. Christmas and Easter are observed by the largely Christian population, and the traditional wrestling festivals of the Dinka and Nuer peoples give the year a distinctly Nilotic cultural character.
In January 2024 there are 2 public holidays: New Year's Day, Peace Agreement Day. In 2024, South Sudan observes 15 public holidays including 15 national, of which 3 fall on a weekend.
