About Public Holidays in Vanuatu
Vanuatu, a Melanesian archipelago, celebrates a holiday year that honours both its colonial past and its remarkable cultural diversity. Independence Day on July 30, marking the 1980 separation from the Anglo-French condominium, is the national centrepiece, and the country's famous land-diving ceremony — the precursor of bungee jumping — takes place during the yam season festivals.
