About Public Holidays in Uganda
Uganda's holidays blend national memory, Christian faith and the legacy of the East African community. Independence Day on October 9 marks 1962, and the country observes Christmas, Easter, Good Friday and Boxing Day with great warmth. The two Eids are public holidays honouring the Muslim community, and the country's liberation anniversaries in January commemorate the fall of the dictatorships. The traditional Buganda kingdom's coronation anniversaries and the vibrant dance culture of the country's many ethnic groups enrich every festival.
In December 2024 there are 2 public holidays: Christmas Day, Boxing Day. In 2024, Uganda observes 14 public holidays including 14 national, of which 2 fall on a weekend.
