Tanzania's holidays reflect a blend of Swahili culture, Islamic and Christian faith, and the memory of its socialist founding. Union Day on April 26 celebrates the 1964 merger of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, while the Independence Day on December 9 marks 1961.
