About Public Holidays in Tchad
Chad, a vast Sahelian nation, celebrates a holiday calendar balancing Muslim and Christian traditions. The two Eids and the Prophet's birthday follow the Islamic calendar, observed across the Muslim north, while Christmas and Easter are kept by the Christian south. Independence Day on August 11 marks the 1960 break from France, and the country observes Freedom and Democracy Day on December 1, commemorating the end of the Hissène Habré era. The traditional festivals of the country's many ethnic groups, including the Gerewol courtship dance of the Wodaabe, enrich the year.
In May 2028 there are 2 public holidays: Labour Day, Eid al-Adha (estimated). In 2028, Chad observes 12 public holidays including 12 national, of which 2 fall on a weekend.
