About Public Holidays in Sverige
Sweden's holidays reflect Lutheran tradition and the rhythms of the Nordic year. Midsummer — the Friday and Saturday nearest June 20 — is the country's most beloved celebration, with maypole dancing, herring and long daylight, while Walpurgis Night on April 30 welcomes spring with bonfires. Lucia Day on December 13 opens the Christmas season with candlelit processions, and Christmas Eve, not Christmas Day, is the main family celebration. National Day on June 6 is a comparatively recent public holiday, and the summer brings the 'industrisemester' when most of the country takes time off.
In December 2028 there are 2 public holidays: Christmas Day, Boxing Day. In 2028, Sweden observes 13 public holidays including 13 national, of which 5 fall on a weekend.
