About Public Holidays in Россия
Russia's holiday calendar carries a distinctive historical layering, from Orthodox feasts to Soviet-era commemorations and the modern state's own dates. New Year, celebrated with the family feast and the Ded Moroz figure, is by far the country's biggest holiday, extending into a week-long break. May 9 Victory Day is an intensely emotional commemoration of the Second World War, while Defender of the Fatherland Day in February and International Women's Day on March 8 complete the civic year. Orthodox Christmas on January 7 and Easter follow the church calendar.
In February 2024 there is 1 public holiday: Defender of the Fatherland Day. In 2024, Russia observes 19 public holidays including 19 national, of which 2 fall on a weekend.
