About Public Holidays in Portugal
Portugal keeps a holiday calendar shaped by its Catholic past and maritime history. June is the month of the popular saints — Saint Anthony in Lisbon, Saint John in Porto and Saint Peter across the north — celebrated with grilled sardines and street parties. The feast of the Immaculate Conception is Portugal's patronal holiday, and the Republic Day on October 5 and the Restoration of Independence on December 1 anchor the civic year. Easter, Christmas and the summer Corpus Christi complete a warm, community-centred calendar.
In June 2024 there is 1 public holiday: Portugal Day. In 2024, Portugal observes 14 public holidays including 14 national, of which 4 fall on a weekend.
