About Public Holidays in Malawi
Malawi, the 'Warm Heart of Africa', celebrates a holiday calendar shaped by its Christian heritage and civic history. Independence Day on July 6, which also marks the republic, is the great national celebration, and the country observes Christmas, Easter, Good Friday and Boxing Day with particular warmth. The two Eids are observed in honour of the Muslim community, and John Chilembwe Day in January commemorates the 1915 uprising against colonial rule.
