About Public Holidays in Italia
Italy's holidays are inseparable from its Catholic heritage. Religious feasts dominate the public calendar: Epiphany, Easter Monday, Assumption on August 15, All Saints' Day and the Immaculate Conception, alongside the uniquely Italian celebrations of the Republic on June 2 and Liberation Day on April 25. Christmas is the year's greatest festival, with the Nativity scene tradition originating in Assisi, and Ferragosto in August — once a Roman harvest festival — sends Italians to the beaches. Labour Day on May 1 completes a year rich in both faith and civic pride.
In May 2024 there is 1 public holiday: Labour Day. In 2024, Italy observes 13 public holidays including 13 national, of which 5 fall on a weekend.
