About Public Holidays in Ireland
Ireland's holiday calendar is dominated by Saint Patrick's Day on March 17, a national feast that has become a global celebration of Irish heritage. The country keeps the Christian year with Good Friday, Easter Monday and Christmas, and since 2023 observes a new public holiday for Saint Brigid in early February. Summer bank holidays in June and August lengthen the holiday season, and the October bank holiday coincides with the Halloween season, a festival with deep Celtic roots in the Irish countryside.
In January 2024 there is 1 public holiday: New Year's Day. In 2024, Ireland observes 10 public holidays including 10 national, of which 1 falls on a weekend.
