About Public Holidays in Magyarország
Hungary's holidays reflect Catholic tradition, national history and a proud folk culture. March 15 marks the 1848 revolution, August 20 the founding of the state with the famous fireworks over the Danube, and October 23 the 1956 uprising — three national days with distinctive civic rituals. Easter and Whitsun anchor the religious calendar, and Christmas Eve is the family celebration with the traditional fish soup. The 'name day' culture means many Hungarians also celebrate personal saints' days throughout the year.
In August 2028 there is 1 public holiday: St. Stephen's Day. In 2028, Hungary observes 13 public holidays including 13 national, of which 4 fall on a weekend.
