About Public Holidays in The Gambia
The Gambia, Africa's smallest mainland country, celebrates a holiday calendar reflecting its Muslim-majority population and British colonial heritage. The two Eids and the Prophet's birthday follow the Islamic calendar, while Independence Day on February 18 marks the 1965 break from Britain.
