About Public Holidays in The Gambia
The Gambia, Africa's smallest mainland country, celebrates a holiday calendar reflecting its Muslim-majority population and British colonial heritage. The two Eids and the Prophet's birthday follow the Islamic calendar, while Independence Day on February 18 marks the 1965 break from Britain. The country observes Christmas and Good Friday in honour of its Christian minority, and its vibrant cultural traditions surface in the annual Roots Festival and the wrestling and kora music of the Mandinka people.
In 2023, The Gambia observes 0 public holidays, of which 0 fall on a weekend.
