About Public Holidays in Fiji
Fiji celebrates a holiday calendar that formally honours its multicultural society. The country is unusual in making both Christian Christmas and Easter and the Hindu Diwali official public holidays, alongside the Muslim Eid al-Fitr and the prophet's birthday. The National Day on October 10 marks both the 1874 cession to Britain and the 1970 independence, and the country's rugby success gives the annual Fiji Day celebrations a distinctly sporting flavour. Each community's festivals make the year a continuous round of shared celebration.
In October 2028 there are 2 public holidays: Fiji Day, Diwali (estimated). In 2028, Fiji observes 12 public holidays including 12 national, of which 2 fall on a weekend.
