Finland's holidays reflect Lutheran tradition and the extremes of the Nordic year. Midsummer, the Friday and Saturday around the solstice, is the country's most important celebration, with saunas, bonfires and the midnight sun, while the month of May welcomes spring with Vappu, the May Day carnival that is also Labour Day. Christmas Eve is the central family celebration, with the declaration of Christmas peace in Turku, and Easter keeps a quieter, candlelit character.
