About Public Holidays in Danmark
Denmark's holiday year is anchored by Christian feasts and the long summer light. Easter week runs from Maundy Thursday through Easter Monday, one of the longest holiday stretches in Europe, and Whitsun follows in May. Midsummer Eve on June 23 is marked with bonfires and the burning of a witch effigy, and Christmas Eve is the family celebration par excellence, with dancing around the tree and rice pudding. Constitution Day on June 5 is a national flag day, and the Great Prayer Day, abolished in 2023, once extended the spring break.
In 2028, Denmark observes 10 public holidays including 10 national, of which 3 fall on a weekend.
