About Public Holidays in Deutschland
Germany's holidays reflect its federal structure: nationwide dates such as New Year, Labour Day, German Unity Day and Christmas are joined by region-specific feasts that vary across the sixteen Länder. Epiphany is observed in the south, while Reformation Day, All Saints' Day and Corpus Christi appear in strongly Catholic or Protestant states. Easter, Whitsun and Christmas are the religious anchors, and the country's famous Christmas markets run through Advent. German Unity Day on October 3 marks reunification, and May Day is both a labour holiday and a traditional spring festival.
In December 2024 there are 2 public holidays: Christmas Day, Boxing Day / St. Stephen's Day. In 2024, Germany observes 9 public holidays including 9 national, of which 0 fall on a weekend.
