About Public Holidays in Cameroun
Cameroon, 'Africa in miniature', celebrates a holiday calendar that reflects both its English and French colonial heritage. National Day on May 20, marking the 1972 unification, is the great celebration with parades in every town, and the country observes Christmas, Easter, Good Friday and the Assumption. The two Eids are observed across the Muslim north, and the country's extraordinary ethnic diversity — over 250 groups — gives each region its own festivals, from the Ngondo water ceremonies of Douala to the palace festivals of the Bamoun kingdom.
