Public Holidays in Burundi 2024
About Public Holidays in Burundi
Burundi's holidays blend national memory, Christian faith and the legacy of its monarchical past. Independence Day on July 1 marks the 1962 break from Belgium, and the country observes Christmas, Easter, the Assumption and All Saints' Day with Catholic devotion. The traditional drummers of the royal court — the world-famous Burundi drums — perform at national celebrations, and the country's Unity Day in February and the anniversary of the republic in November complete the civic calendar.
In April 2024 there are 2 public holidays: Commemoration of the Assassination of President Cyprien Ntaryamira, Eid al-Fitr. In 2024, Burundi observes 16 public holidays including 16 national, of which 4 fall on a weekend.
