Bulgaria's holidays mix Orthodox feasts, national memory and a rich calendar of folk customs. National days mark the liberation from Ottoman rule on March 3 and the unification of 1885 on September 6, while the Cyrillic alphabet is honoured on May 24, the Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture.
