About Public Holidays in Barbados
Barbados observes its holidays with a strong sense of Caribbean pride. The island's biggest celebration, Crop Over, runs from June to August and ends with Grand Kadooment Day on the first Monday of August, a carnival of costumes and calypso that grew out of the sugarcane harvest. Independence Day on November 30 marks the end of British rule in 1966, and the first Monday of October honours the national heroes. Easter, Whit Monday and Christmas complete a calendar that balances church, nation and carnival.
