About Public Holidays in Antigua and Barbuda
Antigua and Barbuda marks its twin-island identity with a compact but lively holiday year. Independence Day on November 1 is the centrepiece, following the country's 1981 break from Britain, and Carnival in late July brings weeks of calypso, steelpan and street parades. British-era holidays such as the Queen's official birthday have evolved into national observances, while Easter, Whit Monday and Christmas keep the Christian calendar intact alongside public holidays honouring Labour, the Emancipation of slaves and the nation's heroes.
In 2024, Antigua and Barbuda observes 11 public holidays including 11 national, of which 0 fall on a weekend.
