About Public Holidays in افغانستان
Afghanistan's holidays are shaped by Islamic faith and national history. The two Eids and Ashura follow the lunar Islamic calendar, and the country observes the Afghan New Year, Nowruz, on the spring equinox with the traditional Haft Mewa table and the Jahenda Bala kite festival. Independence Day on August 19 commemorates the 1919 treaty that ended British influence, and the country's National Mujahideen Victory Day in April marks the 1992 fall of the communist regime. The religious and solar calendars intertwine across the year.
In April 2024 there are 4 public holidays: Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Fitr, Mojahedin's Victory Day. In 2024, Afghanistan observes 14 public holidays including 14 national, of which 3 fall on a weekend.
