The United Arab Emirates celebrates a holiday calendar shaped by Islam and the rapid growth of a modern federation. The two Eids and the Islamic New Year anchor the religious year, while the National Day on December 2 commemorates the 1971 union of the seven emirates with fireworks, parades and heritage shows. Commemoration Day in late November honours the country's fallen heroes.
